Jenkins' Requiem sets a deeply moving expression of spirituality.

Karl Jenkins’ Requiem sets the traditional Latin text of the Requiem mass, including the extra movements included by Faure and Durule – Pie Jesu and In paradisum.  These are interspersed with haiku ‘death’ poems (sung in Japanese) whose delicate, epigrammatic texts provide a peaceful commentary on the litugical words.  The result is a deeply moving expression of spirituality, whose musical tying together of different cultures provides a link that is highly appropriate in the modern world.

On February 10th, 7:30 p.m. join us for a multimedia concert experience honoring three great peacemakers: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa.  Vocal Artistry and Dance Alliance, the resident dance company of the Alliance for the Arts, combine in an inspiring program ranging from South African freedom songs to Karl Jenkins’ dramatic and ethereal Requiem accompanied by a professional orchestra.
